Shadow Torchic
Torchic is a small, chick Pokemon with stubby, downy yellow wings, orange feathers, and a flame-shaped crest on its head. Its two thin legs and short beak are a light brownish yellow, and its feet have three toes in front and one in the back.
Torchic’s primary strength is its fire-type nature, which allows it to launch powerful fireballs that can burn through ice and even rock for high damage. Its STAB moves include Fire Blast and Hidden Power Grass, which deal strong damage to Water- and Rock-type Pokemon.
Stealth Rock is a serious weakness to Torchic, so it’s best to build teams that can check for this move early on, including Rapid Spin users like Staryu and Bulky pivots such as Mienfoo or Vullaby. In addition, entry hazard removal is crucial in order to prevent Torchic from getting stuck on the sidelines and being hit by a Stealth Rock.
The best counters for Torchic are Flying-types with resistances to Hydro Pump, Hidden Power Flying, and Ice Beam, as well as Fire-types with strong STAB attacks. These include Chinchou, Mantyke, and Bronzor.
Overheat is also an option, though it can be risky because it sharply lowers Torchic’s Special Attack. Other coverage moves that can be run with Torchic include Sucker Punch, which hits for double the damage and lowers the target’s Defense stat; Rock Slide, which is effective against Flying-types but may leave behind a large Stealth Rock; and Bullet Seed or Leaf Blade, which deals heavy damage and can be a game changer if used with another teammate.
Shadow Torchic is an excellent starter Pokemon for those who enjoy battling Team Go Rocket Grunts, as it’s hard to catch and can help raise your Defeat Team Rocket and Purify Pokemon medal rankings. However, it’s important to remember that each battle against a Shadow Pokemon has a different challenge based on the defending team’s type weaknesses and the defender’s moveset.
Shadow Hippopotas

Hippopotas is a Ground type Pokemon that can be found in arid regions. It enshrouds itself in sand to protect itself from germs and does not like getting wet.
It also spits hunks of sand to attack its opponent. This can increase damage and paralyze the opponent for a short period of time.
A quadrupedal Pokémon, it is tan with mottled dark brown patches on its body. It has a large snout with protruding nostrils and a mouth filled with several blunt teeth. Its eyes and ears are located on top of its head, and it has two feet with blunt claws.
The best strategy against Hippopotas is to have a strong Ground type in your team. This will allow you to wipe most of its picks out, but it's also important to take into consideration the Fire type Pokemon this Grunt has in their lineup.
Another good strategy against Hippopotas is to use a Water or Grass type that can resist its moves. A Water type like Kyogre, a Grass type like Garchomp, or a Rock type like Torterra can help you defeat this Grunt.
For attacking, Hippopotas has a strong arsenal of fast moves. Earth Power, Fire Fang, and Thunder Fang are all good against Grass and Water attackers, while Body Slam is a decent defensive move.
On offense, Earthquake is a weaker alternative to Earth Power, but it's less expensive energy wise and has STAB. Its other charged moves aren't quite as good, though Weather Ball Rock is a nice option for coverage. The weakest of these is Stone Edge, which demands too much energy and doesn't share typing synergies well with other fast moves.

Grunts are the lowest-ranking members of Team Go Rocket and can prove a difficult fight. Fortunately, each of these Grunts will taunt you with a line of dialogue ahead of their encounter, giving you a hint as to what type they’ll be using and the possible pool of Pokemon they might use.
With this Grunt, you’ll be battling a Ghost-type Pokemon team that’s weak against Dark and Ghost-type attacks. You should bring a Fairy-type Pokemon, like Alolan Vulpix or Cindaquil, with you to counter their attacks.
In addition, you’ll need to be sure that your Fairy-type Pokemon can survive against their powerful Fire attacks! Fire-type Pokemon are weak against Grass, Rock, Water, and Ground-type moves, so make sure you have a few of those in your party to help you out.
If you’re unsure which Pokemon to choose, we recommend trying out Tyranitar. This powerful Pokémon is a non-legendary and has an excellent PvE rank, especially if you give it Smack Down to make it a strong Rock-type attacker or Bite and Crunch to make it an effective dark-type fighter.
As a bonus, this Pokémon can Mega Evolve and is currently the best non-legendary PvE tier in terms of stats. It’s also one of the few Pokémon that can be found in the wild outside of Gyarados City, so you should try to get it if you can.
In general, you’ll want to use your strongest Pokemon against this Grunt, as their Fire-types are the most powerful in the game. You’ll also need to be aware that these Grunts use Ground-type Pokemon, which are weak against Grass and Water-type attacks.
Shadow Machamp

Shadow Lucario

Shadow Lucario is a good counter to these types of Pokemon as it has high physical defense, can deal more damage than most Fighting-types, and can resist Mega Evolution.
You’ll want to bring your best Fighting-types into this battle, as well as your most powerful Counter Pokemon. Machamp (or your strongest Counter user) will be particularly effective, while Lucario and Breloom will also help to boost your team.
The Dragon-type Grunt you’ll face in this encounter is a tough opponent to beat, as they have Dratini and Alolan Exeggutor in their lineup. These Pokemon are weak to Water, Fairy, and Ice-type moves. Choosing a Pokemon with a strong Dragon or Flying-type attack is recommended, such as Walrein and Gardevoir.
Another important point to remember about this Grunt is that they don’t use shields, which makes them a lot more difficult to beat. As a result, you should protect your low HP Pokemon against their charged attacks by using your own Charge moves and by switching them out.
Fortunately, these Team Go Rocket Grunts can be defeated by teams that take advantage of their weaknesses. Each one will taunt you with a line of dialogue before you fight them, and this will give you an idea of which type of Pokemon they’ll use.
